About the client

Our client, originally a Brno startup founded in 2005, has developed over 18 years into a respected player in the field of molecular diagnostics. With more than 100 employees and exports to 75 countries worldwide, the firm became an attractive target for global expansion, culminating in the merger with the American Diagnostic Corporation under the auspices of a strong investment fund.The assignment was to find a new General Manager to take the helm from one of the founders and take the company through the arduous process of integrating into the global structure, successfully increasing production capacity, and all without to the loss of its unique innovation DNA.

It's a challenge

The search for a leader for this type of company in the Czech environment presented several critical barriers:


  • Specific field: Extremely limited number of companies in the Czech Republic that combine cutting-edge research in the IVD area with volume production.
  • High complexity: The candidate had to understand the regulated market (IVD, SÚKL), Lean principles in manufacturing and at the same time be “on target” for international integration and further expansion.
  • Geographical and cultural limitations: The general reluctance of top Czech managers to move to the Czech Republic and the need to find someone with experience in the matrix structures of international corporations.

How we progressed

The key to success was our deep-industry network, active talent search outside the open job market and the ability to view candidates through the lens of the end client.


  • Targeting: We targeted innovative companies in the sectors of diagnostics, medical devices (MedTech), as well as advanced chemistry and engineering.
  • Acquisition of passive candidates: We targeted leaders who were not looking for work. Thanks to our ability to gain interest and build strong motivation even among candidates who are satisfied in the current position, we have opened a dialogue with experts that ordinary advertising does not reach.
  • Consultative approach: For borderline profiles, we continuously fine-tune expectations with the client in order to accurately strike the balance between technical expertise and managerial seniority.
  • Intensive screening: We reached out to several dozen potential leaders. Everyone went through an interview where we discussed with the candidates their experience, ability to manage change and strategic thinking (P&L responsibility, investment opportunities, etc.).
  • Mentoring candidates: We have prepared the finalists in detail for interviews with global and local CEOs. Our focus is on them being able to present their strengths in the context of the client's priorities.

The solution

Over the course of 8 weeks, we presented the client with a shortlist of 5 highly relevant candidates. Thanks to our precise pre-selection phase and assistance in finalizing the contract terms, the client selected a “hot candidate” who met the demanding requirements of both the American owner and the outgoing founder.
